Since 2016, Mid Penn Bank and the Division of Urology at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center have joined forces during the month of November to raise funds for prostate cancer research by putting down the clippers.
To date, the No Shave November campaign has raised more than $244,000 for Dr. Jay Raman and the Division of Urology team.
These funds help Dr. Raman and his team speed up research and improve men’s health care. To date, No Shave November gifts have:
Supported the analysis of a statewide prostate cancer registry, which unfortunately shows an increase in prostate cancer aggressiveness over the last five years.
Made it possible for Dr. Raman’s team to provide an annual free prostate cancer screening program in central Pennsylvania.
Furthered the team’s involvement in the Pennsylvania Urologic Research Collaboration (PURC). PURC allows them to work cooperatively with other PA programs to decrease complications of biopsy procedures and surgery, shorten hospital stays, reduce narcotics dependence, improve biopsy accuracy through imaging, and use genomic biomarkers to monitor patients’ conditions.
