Every year in the United States, more than 1.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer, and more than 600,000 die from the disease. In Pennsylvania alone, more than 200 people receive a cancer diagnosis every day.

Fighting cancer is an instituional priority for Penn State, and the Cancer Institute's capacity to beat cancer has never been greater. One of seven Univeristy-wide interdisciplinary research institutes, the Cancer Institute consists of more than 220 research members in eight colleges and 40 departments. It integrates this broad expertise to translate new discoveries into tangible health benefits. As a member of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium, the Cancer Institute also participates in highly translational oncology trials that leverage the scientific and clinical expertise of Big Ten Universities.
